The Business
Founded in February 2020, Cabin 16 Wilderness Retreats aims to create beautiful experiences for guests from Canada and around the world with a focus on environmental, social and economic sustainability.
Mission
My mission is to create a network of for-profit conservation areas throughout North Frontenac Township by combining the principles of environmental conservation with the business of short-term vacation rentals. This will be achieved through consultations and partnerships with local landowners regarding establishing their own vacation rental businesses as well as occasional land acquisitions going forward. Land of particular interest includes wetlands as well as other habitats rich in biodiversity.
Vacation Rental Consultations
Thinking of earning an income by offering your place to travellers on sites like Airbnb or Hipcamp? Well, lucky you! You found an Ambassador for both! I am here to answer any questions you may have regarding vacation rentals in North Frontenac, Ontario and beyond. If you’re new to these websites, click either of the referral links below to make an account (you can publish your listing later).
There are a few ways we can go forward after I see that you’ve used the link to sign up. First, we can walk around your property while we discuss the different resources you can market as “attractions”. Afterwards, I’m available to answer any questions online (or to have a subsequent site visit). Second, if you’re too far away and we cannot meet in person, I can still provide online support. You may find that you don’t even need my support! Cost to you? Nothing! I receive a nominal bounty from Airbnb and/or Hipcamp after your first guest checks out. Your success is my success.
If you have already signed up without using my links, I am still willing to have on-site consultations…… for a price! $50/hour to be exact, from the moment I turn my key.

Places to Stay

This two-bedroom cabin has also gone through a complete redesign and renovation inspired by travels throughout Canada and the world. Complete with WiFi, satellite TV, DVDs, games and puzzles there should never be dull moments even on rainy days. Because of the way it’s situated, every window in the cabin has views of the lake. Sit on the swing on the deck or lounge in a hammock under the massive pine trees. This cabin is also winterized and heated with a propane fireplace, so it is very cosy during the colder months. This is a pet-free cabin and sleeps four people - but there’s also a sofa bed in case there’s a fifth!
Nightly rates (min. 2 nights) available all year round! Click here to learn more and to book through Airbnb.

The Trembling Aspen is located within Lancaster’s Resort and is nestled close to the shoreline. This tiny cabin has undergone a massive renovation during the spring of 2018. As soon as you walk in you will be treated to a completely open-concept and ‘Canadian-style’ design. Wake up in the morning with spectacular views of the lake and end the day having a glass of wine by the campfire while listening to the loons call. This is the perfect cabin for a couple or single traveller. And yes, that really is the name of a tree - Populus tremuloides.

Why “Cabin 16”?
The name Cabin 16 is from the number of the cabin purchased from Lancaster’s Resort, which rented a total of, you guessed it, sixteen cabins. This was always one of my favourite cabins and 16 is also a lucky number for me, as it is my birthday! Although the cabin itself is not exactly surrounded by wilderness, anyone staying at the resort can easily access wild places. Looking across the lake to the undeveloped north shore, you could even feel as if you’re the only one around. As the company grows and more land is (hopefully!) acquired, I wish to stay in touch with my roots of growing up at this resort by making my cabin the namesake of the company.
